Rev. Norlene Jackson is Ministry Intern at Meadowbrook United Church and officially assumed duties in that capacity on September 1, 2010. However, since January 2010 she was assigned to the Meadowbrook charge while completing final year studies at the United Theological College of the West Indies (UTCWI). She subsequently graduated with first class honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology.
The eldest of three children, Norlene Jackson hails from the parish of Hanover. She attended Lucea Primary School, Montego Bay High School, New Era Institute and Bethlehem Moravian Teachers’ College where she obtained her teaching diploma. She attended the Institute for Theological and Leadership Development (ITLD), the UTCWI and Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis (where she studied for one semester during her final year at UTCWI).
As a ministerial student, she served the following congregations: St. Andrews and Lauriston Charge, Webster Memorial, St. Stephens, Brompton, Palmer’s Cross and Mineral Heights Charge and Meadowbrook Charge.
Camp Ministry has played an integral and vital role in her overall development. Through her service as Counselor, Coordinator and Chaplain at Children’s, Junior, Teens and Youth Camps, Norlene has honed and sharpened her skills in organizing, planning and executing various programmes.
Rev Jackson was officially introduced to the Meadowbrook charge in a service on Sunday, November 7, 2010. The Deputy General Secretary, Rev. Norbert Stephens and Moderator, Rt. Rev. Henley Bernard shared in the act of commissioning.
Norlene has already endeared herself to the Meadowbrook family with her passion and love for the Lord, her gift of song and her love for the young and old alike. Meadowbrook United welcomes Rev. Jackson and we look forward to a long and fruitful association with her.

Rev. Dr. Cowan, general secretary of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands (UCJCI), will begin his new role at the start of 2011.
In his acceptance speech to CWM's trustees, meeting in Hong Kong, he expressed humility and gratitude for the vote of confidence the organisation had shown in calling him to such an esteemed position.
Dr. Cowan, 52, said he intends to promote a “partnership of peace”, and would be committed to making CWM an “agent of peace-making”. He also welcomed the opportunity to develop a close-knit working team with existing staff at CWM and paid tribute to the present general secretary Rev Dr Des van der Water, who completes his term at the end of 2010.
He said that he expected to be held accountable to the highest level of performance by the Trustees as he embarks upon an exciting new era for CWM.

The appointment comes at a critical time for CWM. The charity is undertaking a major review of its life, work and mission, and its trustees are currently discussing a new strategy that will take CWM forward into the next decade.
In his new role Dr Cowan will be looking to spearhead the implementation of this strategy alongside CWM’s 31 member churches worldwide.
Rev. Dr. Cowan served as the Minister of the Meadowbrook/St. Paul’s Charge from 2002-2005. Heartiest congratulations to him and may God bless him and his family as they embark on this new and exciting phase in ministry.
